The Lullaby

‍ ‍

Knitted Lullaby was founded in the year of 2011 when I decided that I can bring handmade knitting to another level. The name is inspired by my mom's story from 1985, the year she was pregnant with me and used to knit a lot - so I felt the sound of the knitting needles to be my lullaby .

I learned to knit when I was 7 years old while my mother was sewing Macrame. Later, in high school I started to knit hats and scarves for a few of my older colleagues . The knits were not great at all, I must admit, my technique needed improvement. However the demand for my knits encouraged me to work more and get better at my own craft.

I knitted and sold my first cardigans when I lived in Jersey- UK , in my 20’s, in a boutique with expensive and beautiful clothing. I remember the day when I told the ladies in the shop that I knit and I want to show them my work, it sounded so utopian. The ladies were really nice and encouraging towards me throughout that period of time.

One of my best works in the first years were the knits from the collections 'Passive-aggressive lullaby' (decomposition of the knit ) , The Backbone and The Skeleton ( knitted garments which encode the emotional story of my youth, both with a crochet backbone inspired by my mom's work from my childhood, an element she used in all her Macrame work ) .

Măiastra is my most delicate, soft knit work, created after I turned 40 years old. Made from silk and mohair, it’s design is inspired by the Romanian traditional blouse named IA.

All my knitting has been my own way of communicating to the world without words the stories of my soul, my moods, my inner journey,

Thank you for listening to my lullaby , I am glad you are here.
